A tense and epic story of survival in the American frontier, it is an absolutely gorgeous affair (most, if not all, of the footage shot only using natural light), with the impressive visuals going a long way to immerse you in the action. On top of that, he has assembled an impressive cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Domhnall Gleeson to name just three, giving incredibly visceral performances. There is already talk of this being the year DiCaprio finally captures the golden statuette, and I don’t find myself disagreeing with them.
Released: 25th December (limited, U.S.)/15th January 2016 (IRL/U.K.)
