Despite A Good Day To Die Hard disappointing a fair share of its fanbase, Die Hard as a franchise lives up to its name Deadline reporting that Fox are eyeing Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard to our American friends) director Len Wiseman to return for Die Hard 6. Both Wiseman and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are said to be turning back the clock to 1979, exploring John McClane’s origins as a gritty New York cop and discovering where his die hard attitude came from. Referring to the project as Die Hard Year One (though seemingly it’ll have no connection to the comic book series of the same name), the story will call for a younger actor to step into McClane’s shoes. But Wiseman and di Bonaventura do have room for Bruce Willis (who has been kept in the loop every step of the way regarding the project), with the older John McClane turning up at the end to bookend the movie.
Like it our not, the Die Hard movies continue to make money (A Good Day to Die Hard brought in $300 million worldwide, pretty much tripling its budget) so plans to continue the franchise will always exist. This approach does feel a bit like a reboot, and could give rise to a young John McClane series going forward, similar to what Fox have already done with the X-Men series. Personally, the series hit a wall with the last movie, and this just seems like a last gasp attempt to keep the cash cow going.
What do you think? Does the world need the adventures of a young John McClane, presumably with a full head of hair? Sound off in the comments below.
