In some good news for a Monday, the English language remake of The Raid is in trouble. The director, Patrick Hughes has left the remake and the project is no longer with Screen Gems and that XYZ Films is now the only production company on the film. The movie itself was set to follow the original’s story line, however it was to be set in the near future according to the rumour mill. No word on why Hughes left the movie, but he is now set to direct The Storm Warning, a drama about the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race disaster.
While it might seem disingenuous to bathe in this above good news, a remake of The Raid is an absolutely terrible idea. The original is one of the greatest action movies in history and remaking it in any capacity would never have made lightening strike twice. Gareth Evans has a unique perspective and skill, which was so prevalent in the original and it’s sequel, that attempting anything else now is ludicrous. Just roll on the third movie
