While we still have to wait till next year to see Ben Affleck in action as Batman, Warner Bros. are certainly expecting great things from his take on the Dark Knight, setting him to direct and co-write a solo Batman movie, and while it’s potentially a long way off, JoBlo are reporting that the plot of the movie may be further along than expected, and that we may seeds sown for the solo effort in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to the publication, Warner Bros. are eyeing the Red Hood, the villainous alter ego of former Robin Jason Todd, as one of the movie’s big bad’s, working from the shadows to frame his former mentor for his crimes, teaming up with Jared Leto’s Joker in the process. The movie is said to take its cue from Death in the Family and Under the Red Hood, the former storyline seeing Todd murdered by the Joker before being mysteriously resurrected years later to make Batman’s life hell in the latter. Todd will also be leaving clues to his identity, the first of which has reportedly already being seen the last Batman v Superman trailer in the form of the newspaper clipping emblazoned with “You let your family die”.
If this does turn out to be true, it does put paid to one of the more entertaining fan theories coming out of the fledging DCCU. I am of course referring to the speculation that Leto’s Joker is in fact Todd, driven crazy by his torture at the hands of the Clown Prince of Crime and taking over his role after the original died. Of course this just a rumour at this stage (though one I personally feel has a fifty/fifty chance of being true), so should be taken with a pinch of salt until we hear something official.
