Featuring an all-start cast that includes Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlet Johansson, and Tilda Swinton, Hail, Caesar! sees The Coen Brothers travel to the golden age of big studio system for a kidnap caper, as private eye/movie company fixer Eddie Mannix (Brolin) must solve the mystery behind the disappearance of a big star (Clooney) mid-way through the shoot of his latest picture.
It’s something of a trend for The Coen Brothers to follow up a serious movie with a fun one, and Hail, Caesar! (love that the exclamation mark is built into the title) certainly looks like a whole lot of fun, with the usual comic touches we’ve come to expect from the directing duo and some great Old Hollywood visuals. A new Coen Brothers movie is up there with a new Quentin Tarantino movie, and Hail, Caesar! promises to find them on top form.
