Coming from Alex Proyas (The Crow, I, Robot, Knowing), Gods of Egypt puts the sword and sandal epic through the visionary director’s unique lens, seeing Proyas at his his most colourful and over the top as Egyptian mythology gets the type of glitzy action movie treatment not seen since the days of The Mummy and its sequels. With gods like Set and Horus re-imagined as armoured warriors and Brenton Thwaites playing the most acrobatic street urchin this side of Aladdin, the first trailer does offer something absolutely ridiculous that should leave a huge smile on your face. If Proyas can at least remember not to take himself and his movie too seriously (it has giant, sand surfing snakes, how can he?), Gods of Eygpt could at least be a fun, goofy slice of escapisim.
