We’ve seen quite a bit of Snow White and the Huntsman spin-off, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, over the last few days, and now Universal have released the first official trailer from Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s fantasy actioner.
The original pitched itself as a contemporary fairytale, and that hasn’t changed second time round, with even more action and CG monsters coming along for the ride. One strange problem I have with the trailer though is the muted colour palette. Sure, it gets across that this is a darker fairytale, but it just comes across as very dull, and in conflict with the colourful CGI. It’s a minor niggle though, with the cast alone making me very interested in seeing how this turns out.
Released: April 22nd 2016
Synopsis: Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Emily Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Chris Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.
When Freya Learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the market force it’s ever seen. Now, their amusing army shall prove undefinable....unless the banished huntsman who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.
