Earlier this year, Warner Bros. announced the next movie from Christopher Nolan would be coming our way in 2017, but failed to mention its name or what it was about. Well now, we don’t have to wonder anymore, with the uber popular director’s mystery been revealed as Dunkirk, an “epic action thriller” set during the legendary evacuation of the French town of Dunkirk during World War II, which saved the lives 338,226 Allied soldiers from impending invasion by German forces. Yes, Christopher Nolan tackling an World War II epic should make you sit up and take notice.
Working from his own script, Nolan aims to work with an ensemble cast of mainly unknowns in the lead roles, and he is in talks with Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance (last seen stealing the show in Bridge of Spies) to fill out the ranks of the supporting cast. Shooting will take place in France in May of next year, using many of the events real life locations, using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film, promising some incredibly immersive imagery from the visionary director’s latest project. This will definitely be a departure for him, having spent so long in the realm of sci-fi, but as with any film with his name attached, excitement is high.
Dunkirk is set for release July 21st 2017
