In 1988, Eddie Edwards became the first ever competitor to represent Britain in Olympic ski jumping, and while he finished last in both the events he competed in, he became a media celebrity thanks to his never give up attitude. Now, this underdog story is coming to the big screen with Dexter Fletcher’s (Wild Bill, Sunshine on Leith) Eddie the Eagle.
From this trailer alone, I think we’re onto something special here. The central pairing of Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Hugh Jackman is absolutely perfect, and the light tone promises something akin to classic underdog tales (for the subject matter alone, this is conjuring images of Cool Runnings), as well as a lot of laughs. The trailer has me smiling from ear to ear. I can’t wait to see how I feel after watching the movie.
