We’ll next see Kurt Russell don the furs and cowboy hat for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, but if James Gunn has his way the star of The Thing and Stargate could be returning to the realm of sic-fi, with The Wrap reporting that the actor is being sought for the role of Peter Quill’s father in the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s early days yet, with Russell still having not officially met with Marvel, but hopefully this all pans out, because he would be pretty perfect for the role. Sure, we don’t know what the role involves, but take a moment and imagine him playing off against Chris Pratt........pretty promising, isn’t it?
The identity of Quill’s father has been a closely kept secret since his involvement in the sequel was announced, with Gunn revealing that it won’t be who it is in the comics, Jason of Spartax. The talk of Russell’s involvement follows suit with Marvel upping their game in terms of casting, with the likes of Robert Redford, Kurt Douglas, and Tilda Swinton all been part of the MCU, and here’s hoping he does sign on the dotted line, because he would be a fantastic addition to the sequel and the MCU as a whole.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release May 5th 2017.
