Quentin Taratino has always assembled spectacular soundtracks for his movies, bringing together existing music from old songs or existing, and obscure, soundtracks to create a wonderfully eclectic sonic backdrop for the events that unfold on screen. But his second foray into the Western genre sees a first for the director, with next year’s The Hateful Eight having its own original score. And who did Tarantino turn to craft it? Only previous collaborator and composer of legendary Western soundtracks, Ennio Morricone. But of course he did.
The first track from the score, L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock (which uses portions of unused orchestrations of Morricone’s The Thing score), has come online for your listening pleasure, and it’s everything you’d expect an original score for a Tarantino movie would be. Tense and foreboding, but also a little playful. Check it out below.
