With Dazed and Confused, Richard Linklater delivered a wonderful love letter to the 70’s and proved he has the uncanny ability to perfectly bottle nostalgia. While he has proved himself again as one of the most consistently great directors working today with the likes of Before Sunset, School of Rock, and Boyhood, he returns to the well somewhat with Everybody Wants Some, said to be a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, which follows a group of college baseball players in the 80’s as they take their first steps into unsupervised adulthood.
As before, Linklater’s nostalgia game is on point (even the title is a reference to a Van Halen song from 1980), and he has once again assembled a group of relative unknowns, including Will Brittain, Zoey Dutch, Anthony Guzman, Blake Jenner, Glen Powell (those who watch t.v.’s Scream Queens will know him as the scene stealing Chad Radwell), and Wyatt Russell, which he will no doubt some great performances out of (it’s kinda what he does). And the most important thing? The trailer is an absolute blast. Looks like Linklater’s will continue his track record with this one.
Released: 15th April 2016 (U.S.)/ 13th May 2016 (IRL/U.K.)
