After a brief detour into the world of over the top with Fast & Furious 7, James Wan is firmly back in the world of horror with the sequel to what has to be his finest hour, The Conjuring. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they travel to Enfield in North London to tackle the case of a single mother and her four children plagued by restless spirits. Yes, this is the case of The Enfield Poltergeist, which gripped England in the late 1970s.
While it doesn’t give too much away, the first teaser trailer promises Wan hasn’t missed a step after his brief trip away from the genre. Sure, it feels a bit too familiar (the upside crosses, I’m looking at you), but there’s a deeply unsettling tone running through it, and you just know the creepiest part of the movie is being held back until it reaches our screens.
Released: June 10th (U.S.)/ June 17th (IRL/U.K.)
