Originally Star Wars Episode VIII was due to open just before Memorial Day weekend. However, Disney have just announced that the Rian Johnson directed movie will open on December 15th 2017 instead. No reason has been given for the release date shift, but remember J.J. Abrams pushed for an extension for The Force Awakens, which moved from a Summer to Christmas window after script problems. Not to say history is repeating itself. Most likely, its to do with box office receipts as December has proved incredibly fruitful for the house of the mouse, as The Force Awakens is currently sitting on $1.8 BILLION.
