Even though Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice isn’t even out a full week yet, Warner Bros. is already pimping the Ultimate Cut Blu-Ray of the movie, due out this Summer, complete with thirty minutes of additional footage that should clear up some unanswered questions raised by the movie’s messy and confusing narrative. However, the studio has unveiled one of the possible deleted scenes that just raises more questions. Obviously, spoilers abound, so I’ll discuss what it could mean after the video:

We never actually saw how Lex Luthor ended up in prison, and this appears to show that, but just who is he communicating with? The mysterious figure is holding three Mother Boxes, technology that belongs to intergalactic tyrant Darkseid, the mysterious ‘he’ the villain was talking about in the movie’s finale and whose Omega symbol is burned into the ground during Batman’s ‘Knightmare’. If they look familiar, one is also seen during the creation of Cyborg, turning the injured Victor Stone in to the cybernetic hero.
This could just be how Luthor knows about the coming of Darkseid, setting up Justice League, but how exactly does it come about? After Doomsday is created, Luthor isn’t seen till the end of the movie, so there is quite a bit to explained. One thing we can take from this though, is that the Mother Boxes could very well play a major part in the DCEU going forward.
