Even fans of the director have to admit that Tim Burton has been in a bit of a slump lately, his quirky style becoming hackneyed and generic. Big Eyes was a return to form, and hopefully he can capitalise on that with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Based on the best selling novel by Rasom Riggs, Asa Butterfield stars as a troubled teenager who discovers the titular orphanage, a haven for children with unusual powers, ran by the shapeshifting Miss Peregrine (Eva Green, the best part of Burton’s otherwise disappointing Dark Shadows), who protects her charges from monsters known as Hollows.
20th Century Fox have shared with us the first images from the movie, giving us a look at the cast that also includes Judi Dench, Chris O’Dowd, Ella Purnell, and Samuel L. Jackson, and things look pretty promising so far. It has Burton’s fingerprints all over it, and there’s plenty of scope to tap into what made his early movies so enjoyable.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is set for release this Autumn.
