Matthew Vaughn’s second go around on the Mark Millar comic book train, Kingsman: The Secret Service, rightfully garnered a lot of fans who were over the moon when it was announced the action packed spy movie parody would be getting a sequel. Now, courtesy of an interview with Empire (with thanks to CBM for making it known), Vaughn has dropped some details about the highly anticipated sequel, which he will direct and pen with long time writing partner Jane Goldman, as well as revealing some concept art, including the villain’s lair and headquarters for the Kingsman’s American counterparts, The Statesman.
Entitled Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the destruction of the Kingsman HQ kicks off an ‘international story’ which sends Taron Eggerton’s Eggsy and Mark Strong’s Merlin off to America to team up with The Satesman, led by Ginger (Halle Berry) and as yet uncast Jack (described as a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy”), to take on Julliane Moore’s villainous Poppy. When asked about what to expect this time round, Vaughn teased one armed henchmen, a skiing sequence, robot dogs, and one set piece involving a “giant, fucking frankfurter”. He also went on to add that the movie almost didn’t happen because he couldn’t come up with a good enough villain, and he’s trying hard not to make this, the first sequel to his own work he’ll work on by the way, stand out from the original. If anyone can do that, Vaughn can:

“I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot. You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.”
Kingsman: The Secret Circle is set for release June 10th 2017.
