It’s been a great couple of months for Irish director Lenny Abrahamson, with Room being rightfully lauded by critics and awards bodies alike (even picking up a few along the way). But he has now turned his eye to the future, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that the Irish filmmaker has signed on to direct The Grand Escape, an adaption of Neal Bascomb’s upcoming novel charting the true story of three daredevil World War 1 pilots held in Germany’s most infamous POW camp, and the subsequent escape, the greatest mass prison escape of the war, which gave them their freedom. The movie will be a joint production between Element Pictures and Film4, with Abrahamsson once again teaming up with long time collaborator, producer Ed Guiney.
