As well as directing The Conjuring 2, James Wan’s return to horror also consists of acting as producer on Light’s Out, a new horror movie with one hell of a hook: two siblings are stalked by a mysterious, ghostly entity that they can only be seen in complete darkness. Pitch Black meets It Follows may be one way to describe, but, judging from this first trailer, that would do it a disservice.
The debut feature from David F. Sandberg, adapted by his own 2013 short of the same name, Lights Out shows a hell of a lot of promise. The core concept has an awful lot of potential for some genuine scares, and everything in this trailer is played for the maximum creep potential. Wan’s name attached also acts as a seal of quality, but I really believe it doesn’t need it. This is definitely one for horror fans to keep an eye on.
