Ahead of its Irish release on March 18th Disney’s Zootropolis has taken the number 1 spot with $73m on its opening weekend at the US box office delivering the largest single day of box office in Walt Disney Animation Studios history. The film also captured the largest three-day opening for a Walt Disney Animation Studio title ever - surpassing the $67.4M 3-day record previously held byFrozen.
Following similar record-breaking openings in recent weeks across France, Italy, Belgium and Poland, where the results of Frozen were also beaten, Zootropolis opened this weekend in Germany also delivering the biggest ever opening weekend for a Disney animated title with $6.2m.
The comedy crime caper about a modern mammal metropolis where predator and prey live together in harmony has been getting rave reviews from critics and is also proving a big hit with cinema goers who have given the film a Cinemascore of ‘A’ in the US and a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 98%.
