After delivering the instant classic that was Drive, director Nicholas Winding Refn brought us Only God Forgives, which was less than well received, and, to be honest, felt a bit self indulgent at times. For his follow-up, Refn swapping out Ryan Goslingfor Elle Fanning, with a tale that follows an aspiring model who moves to L.A. and becomes the target of a group of beauty obsessed women who will stop at nothing to take what she has.
The first trailer is what you would expect from Refn, with plenty of shots of coloured lights, a stylised wardrobe, and scenes of epic violence. It remains to be seen if he can rein himself in and deliver a story comparable to Drive, but from what we’ve seen so far, I personally think he’s on the right track.
