The MTV Movie Awards really is the gift that keeps on giving, as next up to bat (heh) is a new Suicide Squad trailer that packs in a shed load of new footage from David Ayer’s DC Comics super villain team-up. Rumours about humour injecting reshoots aside, the tone here seems a bit lighter (though still quite dark, because, y’know, super villains) from Batman v Superman, and, speaking for myself, it’s welcome as that movie really hit you over the head with dour super heroics (even the comedy stylings of Jeremy Irons’ Alfred were lost in the din) and it’s nice to see the universe be given a dose of fun, even though that seems to be a dirty word for comic book movie fans now. I’m less sold on Jared Leto’s Joker, with the one line delivery here suggesting he may be playing it a bit too over the top. While Jack Nicholson proved going big can be entertaining, for audiences in this day and age (who may only know Heath Ledger’s Clown Prince of Crime), understated may be better.
