Ever since it was announced that Sony and Marvel Studios would be sharing the rights to Spider-Man, bringing the wall-crawler into the MCU where he belonged, there was always talk about it being a two way street, with Marvel characters maybe appearing in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, distributed by Sony. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige all but confirmed it, and Robert Downey Jr. previously teased that he would be making the jump, which would make sense since he and the new Spidey Tom Holland share screen time in the fast approaching Captain America: Civil War (have you read our five star review yet?). Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Iron Man will indeed be joining the web slinging marvel for his first MCU solo adventure, expanding on the relationship begun in Civil War. If any one knows of their rapport in the comics, there could be some hi-tech suits in Spidey’s future. The Iron Spider costume, maybe?
Downey Jr. joins the previously announced Holland, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, the Disney Channel’s Zendaya as a seemingly new character named Michelle, and the just announced Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as two of Peter Parker’s friends. As for villain duties, Michael Keaton is reportedly in talks, with the persistent rumour that the high flying Vulture will be the big bad, but there is nothing concrete as of yet.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release July 7th 2017.
