Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington ride once more together with this remake of The Magnificent Seven, and while it feels like a more different beast than the original or the classic Japanese movie that inspired it, it still promises one hell of an entertaining time.
Set to a pretty sweet cover of House of the Rising Sun, it feels like Fuqua has taken the most enduring elements of big action blockbusters and laid it over the skeleton of classic Western tropes. And y’know what, it might just work, with an incredibly game cast, including Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’Onofrio, seemingly having an absolute blast.
Released: September 23rd
Synopsis: With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
