Any Christopher Nolan movie is something to get excited about, but the prospect of the director tackling a World War II epic should garner more hype than usual. Warner Bros. have announced that principal photography has begun on Nolan’ latest epic, Dunkirk, based on the true story of Operation Dynamo, the massive evacuation of Allied soldiers after they became surrounded by German forces in the French town of Dunkirk. Working form his own screenplay, Nolan will shoot on both IMAX and 65mm film giving the film a look all its own, with filming taking place in France, Holland, the U.K., and Los Angeles. Newcomer Fionn Whitehead will take the lead role, alongside more seasoned support, including Nolan regulars Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, and Mark Rylance. The cast is rounded out by Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney, and, as reported before, former One Direction star Harry Styles.
Dunkirk is set for release July 21st 2017.
