Our first look at villain Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) a few weeks back clued us in that the upcoming Power Rangers reboot was going to be radically different than what we are used to. Now, Entertainment Weekly have hammered home that fact with our first look at the colourful heroes new costumes. The publication also dropped a few new tidbits about the suits, confirming that they are alien in origin (tying into comments made by Banks that the heroes powers are tied to her other worldly warrior) by being “translucent extraterrestrial armour that crystallises around their bodies”.
It’s certainly a departure from the spandex of old, but one I think we all saw coming. They are definitely inspired by Iron Man and other superhero movies of that ilk, and while I wouldn’t go as far as saying I hate the redesign, I’ll have to wait and see them in action before making a final decision. Power Rangers is set for release March 24th 2017.
