While many people were less than enthused by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the ‘dawn’ in the title wasn’t for show, and production has started in London on Justice League, with Zack Snyder again at the helm. While we’re all but certain that DC Comics cosmic warlord Darkseid will be taking on bad guy duties in the long awaited team-up of DC’s top heroes (his symbol is the Omega sign burnt into the ground in Batman’s vision of the future in BvS), Birth.Movies.Death claim they know who the villain will be, and it is not Darkseid.
Cast your mind back to the deleted scene (part of the upcoming, 3 hour, R-Rated Ultimate Cut Blu-ray) that Warner Bros. floated onto the Internet after the release of Dawn of Justice. It featured Lex Luthor communing with a mysterious alien figure, who sent three Mother Boxes (otherworldly technology from Darkseid’s home planet of Apokalips) out into the world for equally vague purposes. After the clip debuted, there was much speculation as who to this character was, with theories ranging from Darkseid’s father, Yuga Khan, to his faithful general, Steppenwolf (the creature’s head piece does resemble his look from the comics). Well, the site claims that was indeed Steppenwolf, and, what’s more, he is the big bad for the first Justice League movie, due out November 10th 2017, with Darkseid appearing at the end, setting up 2019’s Justice League Part 2. This does make a lot of sense, as Darkseid is too big a villain to just throw out there. Steppenwolf would be the perfect foil for the Batman led super team, teasing the arrival of his master, as they get to grips with working together. No matter what the deal is, with production currently ongoing, we’ll no doubt here confirmation in the coming months.
