I think everyone was hyped beyond relief when it was revealed that one time Batman, Michael Keaton, was in talks to jump comic book universes, taking on the villain role in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. But just as soon as that news broke, we got word that he had dropped out of negotiations juts as Robert Downey Jr. signed on to inject a healthy dose of Tony Stark into proceedings. Well, now we get hyped once again, with Variety reporting that Keaton is back in, revealing that the original talks stalled when Downey Jr.’s involvement was announced, but Sony was eager to have the two appear in the movie.
While there is no official word as who the big bad will be, JoBlo is reporting that Keaton is indeed being sought for the long rumoured role of the high flying Vulture (adding a dynamic to the action scenes so far unseen in Spidey’s big screen outings to date), but he mightn’t be the only villain appearing, with site revealing The Tinkerer, a super genius who can create hi-tech devices out of household appliances, will be on hand to help the Vulture out, building a “suit with recovered Chitauri tech from the Battle of New York”. On top of that, Spidey’s suit may be getting an upgrade from Mr. Stark (something we all assumed when he was revealed to be joining the cast of characters), gaining his trademark ‘web wings’ from his early, Steve Ditko designed days, deploying them when he needs them over the course of the movie. While these are all rumours at this stage, it would make sense if Vulture is indeed the villain this time round.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits our screens on July 7th 2017.
