Despite adding $2 Billion to the coffers of the James Bond franchise, and not to mention revitilising the character, with Skyfall and Spectre, it seems director Sam Mendes is following in the foot steps (allegedly) of Daniel Craig and walking away from the series. Yes, he said the same after Skyfall, but he has been pretty adamant in the past that he was done after Spectre, and now, speaking at the Hay Festival in Wales, as reported by The Guardian, it’s all but confirmed:
With it looking incredibly likely that Craig has given up the Walther PPK for good (and that Tom Hiddleston may be picking it up), it’s all change for James Bond 25, with Mendes hoping Eon Productions will go an “unexpected direction” with the latest helmer like they did with him.
“It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it, but I think it’s time for somebody else.”
No word on what is next for the Oscar winning director, bit it’s understandable that he wants to do something more than chronicle the next adventure of the cinema’s most suave super spy:
“I’m a storyteller. And at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters"With it looking incredibly likely that Craig has given up the Walther PPK for good (and that Tom Hiddleston may be picking it up), it’s all change for James Bond 25, with Mendes hoping Eon Productions will go an “unexpected direction” with the latest helmer like they did with him.
