While I may have a soft spot for the two films so far, it’s safe to say Cars and Cars 2 are least well received of Pixars output thus, with Cars 2 being the movie from the animation giant to get a ‘rotten’ certification on Rotten Tomatoes. But, y’know what, the kids love Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of those anthropomorphised motor vehicles, so it was no surprise when Cars 3 was given the green light (heh) for a June 6th 2017 release date, with Brian Fee making his directorial debut after cutting his teeth as storyboard artist on the first two films. USA Today has the first, very early look at the film, as well as revealing details of the plot which sees McQueen (Owen Wilson) fast becoming a veteran in the racing circuit, and finding it hard to compete with the more hi-tech rookies, such as newcomer Jackson Storm. He’s been pushed out the door, but the 4-time champion is not ready to leave just yet. That’s where Cruz Ramirez comes in, a young Hispanic female race car who must help McQueen adapt to this new world of racing and figure out ‘how this old dog can learn some new tricks’ as Fee puts it.
While the movie is deep in production, major casting announcements, like who will be voicing Ramirez and Storm, have yet to be made, but it has been confirmed that Bonnie Hunt (Sally Carrera), Cheech Marin (Ramone), and Larry the Cable Guy (Mater) will be returning, and that the action, unlike the world panning Cars 2, will be remaining stateside, hitting historical race across America. How do people feel about another trip to the world of Cars? Should the series be left in the garage with a tarp over it? Sound off below.
