Despite starting off strong with Beasts of No Nation, Netflix’s original feature film line up hasn’t really being on par with their success with t.v. shows. But Fundamentals of Caring, based on the novel by Jonathan Evison, could change all that, and all they had to do was bring in Paul Rudd. The sometime Ant-Man plays Ben, a retired writer turned caregiver whose first client is Trevor (Craig Roberts), a foul mouthed 18 year old with muscular dystrophy. With the pair both suffering from deep emotional pain, they embark on an impromptu road trip which sees their relationship grow into a true friendship.
Written, directed and produced by Rob Burnett (We Made This Movie), Fundamentals of Caring is riding a wave of good reviews following its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and it’s easy to see why, with Rudd and Roberts on top form in what promises to be a crowd pleasing indie gem.
