The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond sacrificed story for action, cutting the footage to the Beastie Boys to fantastic/awful (delete where applicable) effect. The second trailer was a much more traditional affair, really opening up the story and giving us some greta character moments. Now, the third trailer is here, becoming an amalgamation of what came before and giving us a taste of Rhianna singing her heart out with latest ballad Sledgehammer. Now, I can’t think of any other Star Trek movie having a chart song to accompany it, and is the fiftieth anniversary the time to start doing it? With Rhianna, no less? It’s an odd choice, but it kinda works here.
