After many stops and starts where actors and directors were lost, production on the big screen of Stephen King’s IT is in full swing, with Mama director Andy Muschietti at the helm of the two part movie which will update the source material, which split the story between the 50’s and 80’s, with the first movie set in the Eighties where a group of teens dubbed the Losers Club battle the evil Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while the second part will be set in the present and see the club reunite to deal repercussions of what they did in the past. EW has the first look from the new film, and fittingly enough it’s our first look at Bill Skarsgård as the Pennywise, going for a much more in your face evil design as opposed to Tim Curry’s memorably creepy take on the character from the 80’s mini series.
Skarsgård also shared with the publication what to expect from his version of one of King’s most enduring creations:
Skarsgård also shared with the publication what to expect from his version of one of King’s most enduring creations:
It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates…It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.”
IT Part One is set for release September 8th 2017
