The Visit saw M. Night Shyamalan finally start to claw back some of the good will with audiences he squandered with the likes of Lady in the Water and After Earth, and now he is once again team with horror mega producer Jason Blum (of Blumhouse fame, who produced The Visit) for Split, a creepy and foreboding psychological thriller which sees three teenage girls (including The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy) taken and held against their will by Kevin (James McAvoy). But they soon discover their kidnapper suffers from a severe case of Multiple Personality Disorder, and Kevin is just one of twenty three personalities, with a twenty fourth hidden to the world. Until now.
With a distinct air of Alfred Hitchcock about it, Split certainly does look promising, providing a neat twist on a very familiar story. The cast is also worth noting, with McAvoy promising a stunning performance basically playing twenty three separate people, and coming off her amazing turn in The Witch, and equally promising leading role in the upcoming Morgan, Taylor-Joy is definitely proving herself to be a name to watch out for in the coming years.
