Antoine Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven (itself a remake of Kurasowa’s amazing Seven Samurai) is slowly becoming my most anticipated movie of the year, and when you get trailers like the one below, how can it not be? Feeling very much like a Western you would expect from the director of The Equalizer and Training Day, big blockbuster action sits comfortably beside the usual tropes of the genre, but it’s the incredibly game cast, especially the amazing double act of Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, that should go a long way to making this the most entertaining movie of the usually desolate post-Summer season.
Released: September 23rd
Synopsis: With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
