EW had our first look at Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the long in development adaption of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series a few days back, and now more images from the fantasy epic have come our way, showing off the dimension jumping aspect of the story with Elba’s bad ass gunslinger Roland Deschain hanging out in both his home reality of Mid-World and our world alongside Tom Taylor’s Jake Chambers, a young boy who is invaluable in his quest to stop McConaughey’s Man in Black from collapsing the titular tower and thus destroying the multiverse.
Speaking to the publication, director Nikolaj Arcel also revealed an interesting piece of information about the movie: it’s actually a sequel to the original series of books. With the backing of King, the movie is neither a direct adaption of the books or a completely new story, instead been a mix of the two telling a new tale while still sticking to the structure of the first book in the series, The Gunslinger. It’s all bit confusing, and even King isn’t entirely sure it will work, but it’s a good way of appealing to both sides of the movie’s audience, those who have devoured the original novels and those who know nothing of the source material and the deep, deep well of lore surrounding it.
