We all the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars love their alphabetical star ships. We’ve had Wings in the X, B, and Y varieties, and now with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Rebel’s will be getting another addition to their armada, the Incom UT-60D, more commonly known as the U-Wing. Originally unveiled over a year ago at Celebration 2015 in Anaheim, Youtube series The Star Wars Show revealed the ship’s existence to world, bringing in Matt Martin, Creative Executive of the Lucasfilm Story Group, to explain what this new addition to the Star Wars universe has in store for us:
“The U-Wing is a new ship in the Star Wars universe. It’s a troop transport and gunship. So it’s there to bring in rebel troops to heavy fire zones and get out as quickly as possible…The wings move depending on the situation and it’s there to both drop off troops and provide air support.”
Check out these images of the ship in action, and if it does look familiar, you’ve actually seen it before in the first piece of concept art from the spin-off, featuring the U-Wing dropping troops into battle, released at the same time as Celebration 2015. That image can also be found below.
Released: December 16th
