Taking a look through Guy Ritchie’s back catalogue, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better example of the director’s cheeky, chaotic style than Snatch, the movie that gave us Brad Pitt as barely understandable gypsy and Alan Ford’s memorable crime boss Brick Top. Now, Snatch is following in the footsteps of Lethal Weapon, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Fargo, making the jump to t.v. with streaming service Crackle commissioning a new series based on the hit movie. The series will premiere it first series, made of ten one hour episodes, in 2017, and the synopsis promises a new story that will skew close to the source material:
Inspired by a real life heist in London, Snatch centers on a group of twenty-something, up and coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The boys must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend.
Ron Weasley himself, Rupert Grint (also on board as Executive Producer), will take the lead as the ‘dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh’ Charlie Cavendish, and will be joined by Dougray Scott and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, who will be guest starring as Sonny Castillo. The current batch of film to t.v adaptation have thrown up some gems recently, hopefully Snatch if they keep the spirit of the original alive, while forging its own path (much like they did with Fargo), we can it among them.
