Featuring a stellar cast that includes Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Moane, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, and Glenn Powell, St. Vincent’s Theodore Melfi takes the helm of Hidden Figures, the incredible untold story of the three brilliant African-American women at NASA who were the brains behind the launch that put John Glenn into orbit, overcoming prejudices relating to their gender and race along the way.
I’m kinda in love with this movie. Not only do the three leads have tons of chemistry, but Melfi seems to be pulling back on schmaltz you tend to expect from a true story of this type, telling the story in a funny and believable way, letting the impressive cast do what they do best. The movie is set for a limited, Oscar qualifying run in America in December, and I think it could have a chance. Not because the Academy loves a true story, but judging from this trailer, it deserves it.
Released: 13th January 2017 (U.S.)/24th February 2017 (IRL/U.K.)
