Teaming up once more with his Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker, Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is bringing everyone’s favourite intergalactic hunter back to the big screen with The Predator, a partial reboot of the popular action franchise that will keep elements of the first two movie’s continuity with filming set to begin in February of next year, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. The publication also went on to report that Benicio Del Toro (no stranger to sic-fi with roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII) is in talks to take the lead role, one that apparently acts as an anchor to the movie's ensemble cast.
Nothing much is known about the plot at this incredibly early stage, but speaking to the Movie Crypt podcast earlier this year, Dekker did make the comparison that if Predator is Alien, then his and Black’s film is Aliens. This is all pretty intriguing, and hopefully we’ll find out more concrete information in the coming months.
The Predator is set for release February 9th 2018.
