With Warner Bros. having their own department dedicated to developing movies based on the Harry Potter universe, the stage play sequel Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is eventually going to make the jump from the stage to the screen sooner or later (later in my opinion). But how are they going to approach it? Are they going to wait for the existing cast to age up? Cast new actors in the iconic roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione? Or, god forbid, revisit the awful make up job from the last few minutes of The Deathly Hallows Part 2? Well, we probably won’t know for a good long while, Daniel Radcliffe, talking to The Hollywood Reporter at Deauville Film Festival, gave us his opinion on whether or not he would return:
“I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do, but I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it. At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”
He also gave his thoughts on the project, which might factor into him deciding to return when the project is finally green lit:
There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make Phantom Menace. So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”
