Warner Bros. is making every effort to
assess the critical underachievements of their DC Extended Universe movies.
While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad have been two of the
most commercially successful releases so far this year, both were resounding
critical disappointments, for fans and reviewers alike!
Ahead of their 2017-slated Justice League
movie, the studio has passed the supervisory reigns to comic book and TV writer
Geoff Johns, known for breathing new life into comic series such as Green
Lantern and Aquaman – Johns will now oversee the next wave of DCEU releases.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal
yesterday, Johns noted the hopeful, optimistic atmosphere that prevails in the
DC comic book universe, dismissing the attitude that DC films have to be
“gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different."
Despite maintaining much of the darkly-lit grit
of previous DCEU releases, the teasers for Wonder Woman and Justice League hint
at somewhat of a more light-hearted mood. Will Johns’ asserted ‘hope’ and ‘optimism’
go on to mark future releases?
