Following the title reveal on Wednesday, it seems the information floodgates have opened on Logan, the final film featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and both Jackman and director James Mangold have revealed our first look at one of the movie’s co-stars, and let’s just say, Patrick Stewart has looked better. Being a future set story, it’s a given that Professor X would look a little worse for wear, but I wasn’t expecting something this bad. It will be interesting to see what the movie (rumoured to be Stewart's last appearance in an X-Men movie as well) has in store for the character.
Other details about the story have also come to light, with The Wrap reporting that the year in the movie is set in is 2024 and mutants are in decline. Mutant births are down and a ‘government-type’ program called Transigen is turing 'mutant children into killing machines'. This is wear the child’s hand holding Logan’s in the poster comes in, belonging to a little girl he rescues who possesses two adamantium claws that pop out of her hands. Comic book fans will immediately recognise this character as X-23, a younger, female clone of Wolverine. This development now makes sense of the end credit’s scene of X-Men: Apocalypse. As for Professor X’s role, Logan is caring for the ailing mutant, whose powers and memory are in decline.
