The first movie has yet to take it’s bow, but already talk is circulating about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 with Deadline reporting that Johnny Depp will be making the jump to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, joining the cast of the sequel in a co-starring role. Nothing much else is known about the role, but the publication does put forward that he may have a brief cameo in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Couple this with the fact that Depp isn’t the kind of actor to take anything but a substantial role, don’t be surprised if he will be playing a very significant character.
But who could he be? Well, with recent hints pointing to the series of five movies will feature Gellert Grindewald, a dark wizard and former teenage friend of Albus Dumbledore who went on a magic fuelled reign of terror in the 1920’s, the period of time the new movies are set in. It’s highly likely Grindelwald will be the big bad of the new series, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Depp will be taking on that role, giving him the chance to play a bad guy for the first time in a long while. The franchise suits his weird and kooky sensibilities to a tee, and he’d probably relish the chance to play in the world J.K. Rowling. Of course, this is only speculation at this stage, and only time will tell who he will be playing.
