Think of the ways Pixar could have revealed the first look of Cars 3. You probably envisioned some funny, colourful vignette ending with Mater being his dumb, funny self, not this pretty dramatic teaser that promises a bit of more serious tone than what we’re used to from the series. Hell, I’d say this is the most dramatic a Pixar trailer has been ever been, and while I highly doubt that Cars will be going dark and gritty (but seriously, how cool would that be?), but it does promise a story that just doesn’t rely on cheap gags and toilet humour, with Lightning McQueen having to deal with been made obsolete by the sport he loves. Add some truly gorgeous animation on top of that, and this is definitely one I’m curious to see how it turns out.
