Disney are going full steam ahead with the live action remakes of their classic cartoons, and while we wait to see what the new Beauty and the Beast has in store for us, plans are already being made for John Favreau’s new take on another modern classic, The Lion King. After helming the delightful Jungle Book remake, Favreau returning to the world of CGI talking animals is something everyone is ready for, especially if his cast follows suit with these first two announcements. Taking to Twitter revealed that Donald Glover will be lending his voice to the project as Simba, and that one of the original cast members will be returning with James Earl Jones once voicing Mufasa. Because if it ain’t broke, why the hell would you fix it.
So far so good with this casting. James Earl Jones is James Earl Jones, and Glover’s star has been rising exponentially as of late, with the actor pulling off a Disney trifecta by starring in this, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the Young Han Solo movie. All he has to do is lend his voice to a Disney Animation and Pixar movie and he has the full set. Not to mention, he can be charming as hell when the need calls, and should be perfect as the voice of Simba. These two announcements has me really interested to see who else Favreau picks for the project. Could more of the original cast return? I think we all would be down for Jeremy Irons reprising the role of Scar, or even Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella back as Timon and Pumbaa.

Looking forward to working with this legend. #Mufasa pic.twitter.com/1LszbWrcYT— Jon Favreau (@Jon_Favreau) February 18, 2017
