While John Wick co-director David Leitch (also the director of the upcoming Deadpool 2) may not have returned for the second chapter of Kenau Reeves’ continuing, head shot heavy adventures, he’s clearly not done with stone cold master assassins, taking the helm of the Charlize Theron starring Atomic Blonde. Based on Anthony Johnson and Sam Hart’s graphic novel The Coldest City, Theron takes the lead as Agent Lorraine Boughton, MI6’s most lethal assassin who is tasked by her superiors with delivering a priceless dossier out of Berlin. The first red band trailer has come our way, giving us a taste of what to expect.
The tone of this movie is hard to ferret out, since this really is a trailer of two halves with the dark and gritty first half soon giving way to a much more playful, funny tone in the second (set to the incredibly apt 'Killer Queen’), but you can’t fault the action, with Theron throwing herself into some really hard hitting fight scenes. Questions of tone aside, this is definitely one to look out for this Summer.
Released: 28th July (U.S.)/ 11th August (IRL/U.K.)
