The saga of Bad Boys 3, tentatively titled Bad Boys For Life, has been along one, with fans of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s wise cracking, property destroying cops Mike Lowery and Marcus Bennett waiting over a decade for another installment. We were always told it was coming, and it finally seemed to be set in stone when Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smoking’ Aces, The A-Team, The Grey) signed onto director, with production slated to begin this Autumn for a November 8th 2017 release date. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Carnahan has left the project due to either scheduling conflicts (which makes sense since he is writing the big screen adaption of video game Uncharted, Fox’s upcoming X-Force, and writing and directing The Raid remake) or, that old chestnut, ‘creative differences’.
This once again puts the status of the project up in the air, and I personally feel that Sony Pictures had the perfect director for the project in Carnahan. Just watching any of his precious movies shows that he has the eye for the same bonkers action scenes as the first movie, and he’s able to take even the most over the top concept and twist it into the way that is grounded and believable (Smokin’ Aces, anyone?). Once again, we’re back to worrying about whether or not we’ll see Bad Boys 3.
