Cannes is over and done with and as the yachts pull out of the harbour and dump the dead hooker bodies overboard, the Irish are left smiling…and probably still in the pub. Zonad has done exceptionally well at Cannes as it has now got world wide distribution after a deal was hammered out in Cannes with The Works International picking up the rights.
Other Irish movies that got dealed up at Cannes were The Guard, which is starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. That has got distribution deals across Europe, Russia, The Middle East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
All Good Children got picked up as did the Sean Penn starring This Must Be the Place, which will be shot in Dublin during the Summer.
So good times for the Irish at Cannes. Well done to all involved!
