Jerry Bruckheimer has been talking to MTV and has been speaking about a possible sequel to Top Gun.
"We tried to develop [a sequel] and we couldn't do it-- I was with my partner Don Simpson," "And then Tom took it over and he tried to develop something and it never quite happened."
“We were recently approached again to start talking about it but, you know, nothing yet," “We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it."
I’m a big fan of Top Gun. As a kid, the first thing I done after seeing the movie was go out and scrape some money together for the soundtrack on cassette. Not long after that, I begged for a flight jacket similar to Mavericks. As much as I love Top Gun, I can’t really see how a sequel could work. Sure, Cruise will be in it in some way, ala old instructor type who has to go and save the day at the end because the new hotshot pilot (maybe R-Patz) fucked up. Or something.
